Results for week 1 – the winning poem

Friday, 25 October 2013

The Photo and Poetry challenge has captured the imagination of many I am pleased to say. One poet commented that “you don’t always want to write about your own stuff” and that this provided a trigger for doing “something different”. I had hoped that it would.

Thank you to everyone who sent in a poem in response to the first photograph by Chris Sims.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the poems and was really glad that I did not have to make a decision as there was certainly more than one that would be a lovely addition to the book we hope to publish.

Whilst all of the poems received at least one vote, there was a clear winner this week:

One Night by Gill McEvoy

The closest runner up was Di Coffey’s Rainbow Night.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. Do take a look at the poems for Week 2.

Congratulations to Gill and here again is her beautifully succinct and evocative poem together with the photograph that inspired it.

One Night…

Mother, the moon has fallen from the sky!

The beautiful strings that held it up
are broken.
