Poetry Space Competition 2010

Closing date: This has been extended to August 31st. Winners will be announced by October 31st.


Poetry Space exists to promote wider participation in poetry and to showcase new poets alongside more established writers. In order to develop our free online magazine and platform for poets we are holding a competition; The Poetry Space Competition 2010.

Poetry Space Editors Susan Jane Sims and Azadeh K Taj are pleased to announce that the Poetry Space competition is now open for entries.

Prizes:
1st Prize : £100 cash prize, a feature page in our anthology to include your winning poem, an invitation to read your poem at the anthology launch party and five free copies of the publication
2nd Prize : £50 cash prize, plus publication of your poem in our annual anthology, the opportunity to read your poem at the anthology launch party and 2 free copies of our anthology.
3rd Prize: £25 cash prize, publication of your poem in our annual anthology, the opportunity to read your poem at the launch party and a free copy of the anthology.
10 runners up will have their poems published in the anthology, receive a free copy and an invitation to the launch party.

Rules:
Entry fee is £5 to enter up to 3 poems.

Postal entries to Poetry Space Competition 2010, 21 Davis Close, Barrs Court, Bristol BS30 7BU.
Print each poem on a separate sheet of paper along with its title. On a fourth sheet put your contact details: name, address, e-mail address,telephone number and the titles of the poems.


E-mail entries. Send in your poems by e-mail. You can send one attachment but please type each poem on a separate page. Please send your name, address, e-mail address and telephone number in a separate attachment along with the titles of the poems.

All poems must have a maximum length of thirty lines.

All poems must be your own original work and have not been previously published online or in print.

Your name must not appear on the page alongside your poem as all entries are judged anonymously. Please write your name, address and contact details on a separate sheet of paperalong with the titles of your poems.

Judge: Phillip Lyons is the sole adjudicator in the competition. Phillip has taught creative writing and English literature classes in a variety of settings, including universities, prisons and psychiatric hospitals. Philip is the author of two pamphlet collections, Borrowed Time (Ozymandias Press, 1995) and Rainy Day (Loxwood Stoneleigh, 2003). His poems have been published widely in magazines, as well as broadcast on Radio Two and Radio Bristol, and he was a runner-up in the 1996 TLS/Poems on the Underground poetry competition. He has been invited to read his work at events throughout the South West, including the Wells Festival of Literature and Thornbury Arts Festival.

Events

Azadeh will be launching her new collection of poetry Neon Love at The Poetry Cafe in Covent Garden on the 16th of September. She will also be reading excerpts for the first time. Watch this space for more details!
