A little about me

Welcome to our international, creative space showcasing literary talent from around the world.

Azadeh's biography

I am a London-based writer, poet and co-editor of Poetry Space.

Writing poetry since childhood, I have now published over 40 poems in print and online.

With a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in English Literature) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, I decided to step away from legal practice to become a writer and reporter.

I have since contributed to numerous literary journals such as Identity
Theory
in New York, Sarabamag in Nigeria and Hermes in Australia. For details about my poetry appearing in the chapbook published by Nigerian publishing house sarabamag see www.sarabamag.com. For a copy of the chapbook please click here.

As a journalist, I have published features in The Times and reported news for Thomson Reuters and The Local Government Lawyer.

Why I write

Writing has always played an integral part in my life, particularly as a way to come to express social concerns and comment on the human condition.

I believe artistic expression is a powerful tool to voice concern about socio-political problems, human rights injustices and universal human conflicts. I also believe that exploring creativity through any means – whether it be poetry, music, acting, modelling, writing, painting - or just doodling in the margins of a notepad, offers a natural source of emotional healing and joy. My literary work

I am delighted to announce the launch of my first collection of poetry Neon Love, an exploration of sensuality, beauty and desire in an increasingly commercial, consumer-driven world.

Please join me for the official launch on Thursday September 16th at the Poetry Cafe, 22 Betterton St, Covent Garden.

The launch will be part of the cafe's London Literature Lounge and I will be reading excerpts from my new collection amongst other poets and artists. Don't miss this fabulous event - and a chance to get your freshly printed copy!

Best wishes and happy writing
