Gill McEvoy to judge Poetry Space Competition 2018

Friday, 8 December 2017

Poetry Space is  delighted to announce that our judge for the next competition will be Gill McEvoy. This will be our 9th international poetry competition and is open to everyone over 16.

“Looking forward to reading all the poems, and really hoping for the kind of poem that is deeply felt, that touches the heart, and to which the only possible response is Oh how wonderful and I wish I’d written it!  I’m happy too to have rhyming poems offered, as long as the rhyming is skilled and the poems are sincere. Whatever is sent in I shall read it thoroughly and judge it fairly.”

Gill McEvoy won the Michael Marks Award in 2015 for her pamphlet “The First Telling”  (Happenstance Press); she has published 2 further pamphlets with Happenstance, 2 collections with Cinnamon Press, and is one of 6 featured poets in Prole Books’ “Caboodle”. She was awarded a Hawthornden Fellowship in 2012.

Gill will read all entries to the competition.

A past judge Alison Brackenbury said of Poetry Space Competition that “it  is one of the most generous in the poetry calendar”.
