Polish Poets in Exile at The Poetry Cafe

Saturday, 5 April 2014

Poetry Space supporter Anna Maria Mickiewicz will be at The Poetry Cafe on Monday evening   (7th April)as part of the Polish Poets in Exile event at The Poetry Cafe in Betterton St, Covent Garden.

Anna, who received a “Writer of the Year” award last year, from the city of Orlando was first published by Poetry Space in our Through a Child’s Eyes anthology edited by Moira Andrew. We had asked for poems reflecting the child’s experience of World War Two. Anna sent in A London Dream based on a friend’s true story. Now this is one of a small collection of Anna’s poems to be brought together and published in pamphlet form as London Manuscript, ( Poetry Space Ltd). Anna writes both in English and in Polish and has a special affection for London, her adopted city.

The cover design is Golden Jubilee Bridge by Chris Sims.

This brand new publication will be proudly on show at the event and will also be in the Poetry Space online shop very soon. Get in touch if you want to order a copy.

The event starts at 7.30pm. More information here:

A poem from the book:

Another Alexandra Palace spring

In the distance, the city rumbles.

Pounding empty streets.

Shards of the day.

There, the mere illusion of light.

Here, spring brings the sun,

Sweeping away the puddles.

Streams sparkle, hiding in droplets of water.

Mistily entranced

We embrace.
