David C Johnson – exhibition of paintings

Grounded

I hear from David that he is neglecting his poetry writing in favour of art. It looks like it has paid off though and I have news of an exhibition of his  paintings and etchings.

“With his Grounded selection of images, David has produced art on a human scale that will live happily in the home and provide constant pleasure to the eye”.  (Grant Bradley Gallery)

The exhibition will be at The Grant Bradley Gallery in Bedminster  from  Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 10th May to 31st May
2014. Private view Friday 9th May 6.00 to 9.00pm

David C Johnson is also a poet and had success in last year’s Poetry Space Competition with this humorous entry:

Don’t let me linger

I pray that I won’t linger

When I am ninety-one

That my manner of departure

Will be swiftly done

That I will be eaten

By a great white shark

Or run down by a sirened car

Racing in the dark

Not for me the catheter bag

The loitering stench of piss

Let me fall from the Matterhorn

Into a deep abyss

Let me be sucked down gently

In a Lorna Doone type bog

Let me collapse by the roadside

On a geriatric jog

Spare me the indignity

Of adult baby diapers

And the scrubbing of my buttocks

By blue-clad teenage wipers

Don’t let my mind disintegrate

And my recall disappear

Walk me on to Beachy Head

And never shed a tear

When it’s time for me to go

Give me the greatest gift

The chance to make my leaving

Conscionably swift

If David’s artwork is as good as his written words then this promises to be a great exhibition and well worth a visit if you are in the Bristol area.
