Big Red Poetry

Saturday, 22 February 2014

In week 10, our weekly Photo and Poem challenge featured a stunning image of a big red bus bursting through a wall.

Unbeknown to me the photograph (taken by Steve Aukett) is actually the front of very novel pizza restaurant in Deptford,  South East London.  Staff at the restaurant were very taken with the poetry and we have now been featured on their website at:

Do take a look. The restaurant which opened in 2011 was the inspiration of owner and sculptor John Cierach:

In John’s own words; “I acquired an unloved bus, had some unloved land and just thought I would do something positive and creative, so people could have some fun. The installation just got bigger!” Once the project took off, John became a reluctant restaurateur, finding himself the driving force of this exciting new eaterie-come-venue.

The menu includes pizza, pasta, tapas and specials for the kids and you actually get to eat inside the bus or outside in a heated terrace. There is also a cinema based in a big lorry next to the bus. Sounds like a place to head for when you are next in the capital.
